Abstract

http://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.4527693

The Diplopoda, or millipedes, are terrestrial invertebrates with basic detritivory roles within the systems of edaphic dynamics of ecosystems. Evolutionarily, they use disgusting defensive secretions, which vary according to species and families, and constitute an extraordinary source of biologically active secondary metabolites whose eco-chemotaxonomic study can facilitate the complex task of taxonomic identification of geographic species and subspecies in their habitat and understand the mechanism of chemical-behavioural relationships in the edaphic fauna of eastern Ecuador and other neotropical regions. A biomolecular bank is generated that supports the chemo-bioprospection of defensive secretions of Ecuadorian endemics (Rino-crícidos, Rhinocricus gene, Sucumbíos, Orellana and Imbabura areas) and that bases its inclusion in the current systems of systemic conservation and elucidation structure (chemo-prospecting) of Ecuador’s biodiversity to identify biologically active components (quinones, phenols and vanillin), facilitating the molecular mapping of such secretions on a geographic scale.
